As a Junior Data Engineer, you will be joining a team of talented data engineering professionals, who are committed to delivering high-impact and secure data solutions to achieve departmental and directorate objectives.
This role sits in Data Engineering Division. As a division, we provide a full range of engineering capabilities including data sourcing, management, operations, and maintenance of underlying infrastructure.
You will
- work in multi-disciplinary agile teams, supporting the continuous delivery and maintenance of high-performing data products
- collaborate with other data engineers, product owners, architects, data analysts, data scientists, and business users to understand requirements and to deliver solutions to meet those needs
- drive high data quality across the data products and services
- help build and maintain the data engineering community
Essential skills
The skills and expertise we will assess you against are:
- Data development process. Some experience of building basic data processes to transform data into actionable insights.
- Agile working. Awareness of delivering data products in an agile delivery environment.
- Collaboration. Some experience of working alongside others to ensure the stability, robustness, and resilience of products you build.
- Programming and build. Some experience of programming in development environments using common programming languages.
- Problem resolution. Awareness of the types of common problems in data structures, process, and products.
- Data innovation. Understanding of business requirements and spotting opportunities to innovate. Willingness to step out of comfort zone and learn modern data engineering practices and trends.
Desirable skills
- Data quality. Awareness of data quality management techniques to ensure data is fit for purpose.
